All parishioners are encouraged to become actively involved in one or more parish organizations, programs or projects. This gives us an opportunity to share our God-given talents with the rest of the parish communtiy. It also provides us with a chance to get to know other parishioners better and to experience a sense of belonging.

ALTAR SERVERS

Fifth graders or older who have an interest in this ministry may contact Father Williamor Paul Kusler to arrange for training and scheduling.  This ministry assist the priest at Sunday Mass as well as other special Liturgies.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

Since Vatican II it is considered necessary and prudent to ask lay persons to share in the privilege of distributing Holy Communion at Mass and to the sick who are unable to worship with the parish community.

Eucharistic ministers are available to bring Holy Communion and to pray with the sick, the shut-ins, and the elderly of our parish.

Candidates are chosen by the pastoral Staff and are commissioned after a period of preparation and reflection.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at our liturgical celebrations. Their ability to communicate clearly and with conviction enables the parish community to appreciate the Word of God more deeply. All lectors receive a yearly workshop in public proclamation of the Gospel. Lectors serve from 1 to 4 times per month.


USHERS

Our ushers are men, women and young people who welcome fellow parishioners to liturgical events. Their warmth, hospitality and sense of order help create a suitable environment for Liturgy. Among their responsibilities are: distributing bulletins, assisting the gift-bearing family, guiding the congregation in the communion procession, and taking up the offering.

PRE-CANA (Marriage Preparation)

Saint Peter's Staff and community offer their resources in assisting engaged couples in their preparation for the celebration of marriage. Pre-Cana sessions are offered twice a year. Couples who have been married and would like to share their faith with engaged couples in the Pre-Cana program should contact the rectory.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

Two six-week Bereavement Support Groups are offered each year. The purpose of the group is to be a support to those who have experienced the death of a loved one. The sessions are educational and supportive, giving opportunity for questions, discussion and sharing. Details are in the Sunday Bulletin.

FOOD PANTRY

The Food Pantry serves needy families in Saint Peter's Parish and the community. Many volunteers stock shelves, pack groceries and deliver food to people in need.

A food collection is taken on the third weekend of each month. Then during 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. on the Tuesday and Wednesday following the collection volunteers pack the food for distribution. On the fourth Sunday of the month, two volunteers distribute the food between the hours of 10:30 and 12:30.

GOOD SAMARITANS

The Good Samaritans assess the social needs of the parish.Their aim is to empower the community to fulfill the Church's mission of love, justice, freedom and peace by responding in an organized way to the human needs of each person and to the community as a whole. The Good Samaritans meet monthly. 

MARTHA MINISTRY

The Martha Ministry is a group of women and men who dedicate themselves to the care and maintenance of the sacristy, altar and church.

MINISTRY WITH THE DEAF

This ministry provides programs for both adults and children. The 10:30 a.m. Sunday mass on the first and third Sunday of the month is interpreted in sign language for the deaf. Also there is a deaf adult spirituality group that meets once a month on the last Friday of the month. Adult deaf parish members can also serve as Eucharistic ministers. The ministry also provides CCD class for deaf children every Wednesday afternoon, during the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY

The Rosary Altar Society is an organization of women that contributes invaluable services in work and charity. The Society was instituted primarily to unite in charity through prayer in order to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and, by unanimous supplication, to secure her patronage.

The Society meets the third Tuesday of the month at 8:00 p.m. in the church hall. Mass in Mary's chapel at 7:30 p.m. precedes the meeting.

ART AND ENVIRONMENT

This ministry is dedicated to enhancing our sense of worship and other liturgical celebrations. Time, creativity, enthusiasm and energy are employed by the committee to decorate the church for the liturgical seasons and principal holy days of the church year.

The Liturgy Committee at Saint Peters affords people the opportunity to be involved in the long-range planning and evaluation of the overall parish liturgical practices.

RAINBOWS FOR ALL GODS CHILDREN

The Rainbows Program has been developed for children of a single parent or step-family. It provides an opportunity for children to share with a small support group of friends their own age with similar experiences. Rainbows is not counseling or therapy for children. It is strictly a peer support group facilitated by a loving, caring, trained adult.

PEANUTS PLAYGROUP

The Playgroup is for preschool children and their parents/guardians. Its purpose is to teach children to interact with each other and act as an emotional support for parents. The group meets every Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. in the Church Hall. It is open to all children of the parish from birth to age 5. Parents must accompany and supervise their children. There are some outings, such as pumpkin picking in October, and occasionally other trips. All parishioner s are welcome to join us with their children each week.

BIBLE DISCUSSION GROUP

The Bible Discussion Group meets each Thursday evening from 7:30 9:00 pm. This group is open to all parishioners to learn more about the Word of God and its message for their lives. Please consult the Sunday Bulletin for more information.

GOLDEN AGE CLUB

This club is an organization for men and women sixty years of age and older who are interested in participating in discussions, trips and parties. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month at Parsippany Community Center, Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha from 11:30 3:00 p.m.

BOY/ CUB SCOUTS

The basic purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to build character and to foster better relationships among themselves, society, and the government. They also aim for fitness in body, mind, self-control and self-respect.

GIRL SCOUTS

DIVORCED/ SEPARATED SUPPORT GROUP

Crossroads is a support group for separated and divorced persons on their journey to wholeness. The group welcomes persons of any faith, who have experienced the pain of a broken marriage. The support group meets weekly on Sundays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the church hall. Meetings are led by trained facilitators who have experienced divorce in their own lives.
